The County Highway 9 bridge is built on top of the Winnibigoshish Dam. This 1990 structure replaces a 1909 bridge that was rebuilt in 1975.

This is the first of five bridges that cross the Mississippi River where the great river forms the boundry between Cass County and Itasca County. Unlike the other two such county highway river crossings, both counties use the same highway number on each side of the county line, in this case, County Highway 9.
