This is certainly my vote for the most elegant bridge to cross the Mississippi River. The bridge fell into disrepair to the point where it had to be closed in 1991. A temporary bridge was built next to this bridge. The bridge was rebuilt from the arches up, and a wider deck was installed. Once the job was complete, the temporary bridge was removed.
