Apollo 17 command module on display at the Johnson Space Center in Houston,
Texas. JSC is home to most space flight crew training and the mission
control center. Harrison Schmidt was the only non-military astronaut to
fly on Apollo, Gemini, or Mercury. Apollo 17 was the final flight to the
moon after President Nixon canceled Apollo 18 and Apollo 19, both of which
had flight-ready hardware built and ready to go.
