McGilvray Road passes through the river bottoms of the Black
River just north of La Crosse, Wisconsin. The road served the logging industry
and immigrant farmers for nearly a century, then sat abandoned for 50 years.
The road and its historic bridges were restored in the mid-1990s by area
residents who worked as a community to save a nearly forgotten part of their
local history. This photo tour is a look at these historic bridges 15 years
after their restoration.
