Minnehaha Creek Footbridge Crossing Saint Louis Park, MN
Traffic problems continued to grow in the Twin Cities through the 1980s after
the gas crisis and recession of the 1970s had eased. As a result, by the
late 1980s, both MN-DOT and many cities were investigating ways to encourage
other forms of transportation such as walking, bicycling, and taking the bus.
All too often, however, situations were encountered where there was a very busy
bridge or highway that did not sidewalks. The West 37th Street Bridge leading
to a large Target Store in Saint Louis Park was one such example. The solution
to the problem is this 100 foot long prefabricated steel truss footbridge.
This bridge, built by Continental Bridge from Alexandria, Minnesota, is very
functional, yet is also attractive, durable, and relatively inexpensive.
Problem solved.

These two photos are views of the downstream south side of the footbridge
that faces the nearby street bridge. The photo above is looking to the

visible in the background of the photo below.

state bridge plate that identifies the bridge number and year of construction.
