It is interesting to note that despite the bridge deck having a curve, the girders are not curved. In one photo below, you can clearly see where the bridge deck bows out against the background of a straight girder. This is apparenlty how one builds a curved bridge using straight girders. A second interesting note is that the abutments are wider than the bridge. The final photo below shows spots built into the abutments for two additional girders. You can see that in photos of the south end of the bridge, too. Further research has found that the City of St. Cloud has a line item in their 2009 budget to expand the University Bridge to 4 lanes.
This 1985 structure replaced an 1892 era through truss bridge.
