Lock & Dam #22 is located in the town of New London, Missouri.
While it is an important structure for maintaining river traffic flow,
the lock is too small for modern river tows. The larger tows have
to break up into smaller tows in order to move all the barges through
the lock. This process can take hours. As a result, traffic several
days old can get backed up at a Lock & Dam structure.
